I found Ali Abdaal's secret to effortless discipline
Is there a secret to making discipline easier? Ali Abdaal is well known as a RUclipsr talking about productivity and other forms of personal development. Recently I've struggled with discipline, so I set out to find the methods that work best. I found Ali Abdaal's video on discipline methods and decided to give them a shot. In this video, we look at how the learning process went and also which methods work the best. The ability to discipline oneself is very important.
If you're curious about how the learning process worked, I used something called "active recall." It's where you learn something and then repeat it back in your own words. Sounds simple enough, but it's surprisingly hard. It'...

I became a night owl and tracked my productivity
Просмотров 1,6 тыс.Месяц назад
Are night owls more productive? I'm going to find out. All my life I've been told that if you're disciplined and productive you wake up early. If you're lazy and undisciplined you stay up late. The only problem, I've never tested to see if this is true. So finally, I'm making the switch from morning person to night person. The question is, does it improve my physical energy, mental clarity, and...

Here's how I broke my phone addiction in 3 simple steps. And the best part is willpower isn't the answer. Most of us would like to use our phones in a more productive way instead of an impulsive way. How changing my environment fixed my procrastination

Take a second to notice your environment and ask yourself "How does this specific environment affect me?" We often don't think about our environment unless we enter an unfamiliar one, but it is a powerful force constantly shape-shifting us. Why do we act so differently at work than with our friends? Or with our family compared to alone? The answer is our environment is different, and we change ...

Its sad cuz I have to be perfect to make up for the fact that my older siblings aren’t the best not only that but i am not allowed to do anything, I can’t go outside because im “too young” when my brother who is 4 years older than me is allowed to go anywhere and has to be home by 10:00pm yet I can’t be outside and they say “you have to wait till your older” basically i have to wait like 5-4years just to be outside😢😢

There are ways to digitally "backup" hand-written notes: 1. Digital pens 2. Digital notepads 3. Smart scanners Notepads are great for digital privacy concerns or to improve fine motor skills and cognitive functioning. You wanna remember something better? Put pen to paper. Plus, it's better for your eyes.

I've brought notebooks all my life but turns out i have dysgraphia (found out 7 months ago at my age 🤦🏻‍♀️) and writing my thoughts down feels like wading through mud though i could tell you them all quite clearly. Also adhd. I use free zoho notebooks on my phone (i have like 40 on there 😂) I would lose a small paper notebook. I learnt touch typing in high school and can type all my thoughts out fast easily Works same with swype keyboards on my phone. So any adhd people here who struggle to use a notebook look up dysgraphia

As the youngest child, i was told that i was spoiled by my family. everyone always joked around about me being a "demon," until it wasnt a joke anymore. they would give my brother more attention than they gave to me because they always thought i was up to mischief. they always called my brother humble and kind, while they called me a spoiled kid. it happened so much that i just decided to "play the part" one day. I made fun of my brother like he did with me. i talked back to people. id get all defensive. id steal my brothers stuff. thats what everyone else saw. what they didnt see at the time is when id return his stuff and apologize, when id cry over not being the same age as my brother, when my brother criticized my interests, when i felt the need to put up a wall and push everyone away because i felt like i was just a spoiled kid who had weird interests. because of that, i never figured out who i truly was. i never asked myself what i want to be, or anything like that. i feel attacked over any little thing now. when people joke around about me, i feel betrayed and i quiet down the entire time. i close myself off. all because i neved figured out who i was.

I am the youngest in my family with elder rising. Responsibilities on me. High expectations on me. And i am their caretaker all the time. Its like I do everything for them and I don't get anything in return. No support. No emotional support. It frustrates me when people ignore younger siblings feelings. Not all younger siblings are spoiled. There are always rare exceptions.

9:00 the graph is showing two things at the same time - the impact of your circadian rhythm which can be shifted intentionally through habit and light exposure, and your internal Chronotype related cycles which don’t adjust much regardless of what you try to do. Hence you get much stronger peaks and troughs as the two influences begin to clash.

With my first smartphone I got all these apps for writing diaries and logging things and saving things. Pocket to save articles which I then never read again and the buttons to add stuff didn’t fit in the flow of how my brain does things. I got Day One diary and saved a few years of diaries with photos and they updated the app without me seeing any warning and everything was lost. Gone. I just don’t find myself able to think as well when on my phone. I started writing a diary recently before bed when I forced myself to leave my phone and iPad out the room and I ended up writing 30 pages. Lying on my side awkwardly scribbling away with a fountain pen. I got so many ideas. It reminded me how I used to be before smartphones when I was younger. Fast forward a few months and my handwriting has improved leaps and bounds and the way my brain flows improved. My art has improved because I’ve been actually thinking about it while writing ideas and free thinking. not just watching endless videos on it. Some writing and productivity apps I couldn’t live without happily like diet and sports tracking stuff. But the rest, eh. And since apple decided to make it impossible for me and some friends to send texts and only iMessage works and nothing fixes it and phones don’t do basic stuff anymore I may just ditch my smartphone. I went to get the next gen one a while back and cancelled the contract because I thought really why do I want a crappy camera and some small screen with distractions that’s no better than the last? I’ll have a journal and a real camera instead.

Fellow mini notebook notion nerd. This video does a great job reflecting on a lot of benefits I've found through this practice. The presence is unmatched. I think part of it's appeal is that a pen and paper (especially in a calm environment) can allow you to enter theta wavelengths (relaxed, daydreaming, calm), where as your phone will keep you in beta (high alert, upper beta stress and anxiety) This physiological difference determines our ability to think creatively and expand our thoughts into abstract territory. Writing thoughts by hand is also just a damn soothing practice that's enjoyable in and of itself. An "Autotelic experience."

I‘m the oldest and me and my youngest sister are very close. She is only six but here are some of her thoughts. “I never have my own clothes, its always your old clothes.” “Why does everyone say we get what we want, i don’t get anything i want. Mom doesn’t pay attention to me much cause everyone else is doing things. I mean i love mom, but, you know.” For context she is the youngest of 8 children (don’t ask its a VERY long story that barely includes her.) meaning that because she has so many older siblings she gets a lot of hand me downs. :(

I'm also feeling burn out from digital gadgets. I'm a visual artist, so I was drawing on iPads or on my computer. And it's a very efficient way to work, but I was tired of being in front of a screen all the time, and drawing on glass screens always feels awkward for me. I think humans still need to interact with physical objects / move around more/ than the technology lets us. I saw an article a few weeks back that said doing things with your hands (for example, arts and crafts stuff like sewing ) was very good for brain health.
